A Nip the Evil in the Bud: How SBTs Can Improve Data Privacy and Security Against Breaches

Oh, is the Aadhar Data Vault truly a fortress of perfection as they boast, or did they conveniently forget to brush up on their #security standards and logic while constructing this so-called "Vault"? Why should we continue putting our trust in these #centralized entities?

This isn't the initial occurrence of an Aadhar Data #breach. Today a U.S. based #cybersecurity firm named Resecurity claimed that the Personal Identifiable Information of about 815 million has been #leaked on the #darkweb . This Personal Identifiable Information includes your #names, phone numbers, addresses, Aadhar and #passport information.

The twist? The #hacker, who goes by the name "pwn 0001," is offering to sell the complete Aadhar and Indian passport information for a whopping $800,000 Dollars.

And the leaked information are your Personal Identifiable Data collected by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) (ICMAR) during COVID.

And your #PAN (Permanent Account Number) and Bank Account are linked to Aadhar as well, right?

Shall we step into the time machine and journey back through history?

As reported by Avast, from August 2017 to January 2018, the personal information of nearly 1.1 billion Indian citizens, including Aadhaar numbers, names, email and physical addresses, phone numbers, and photographs, was found to be at risk of a data breach. It was reported that were selling access to the 'Personal Identifiable Information' data base at a rate of 6.01 USD for 10 mins.

This is the present state of our data, but the government is considering storing data of our youth population within these very #centralized #entities.

The MINISTRY OF EDUCATION, GOVERNMENT OF INDIA has launched another programme known as 'One #Nation One #Student ID card' or you can say just #APAAR ID (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry).

The APAAR ID card serves as a perpetual #identification number that monitors a student's academic progress and simplifies the process of transitioning between different educational institutions. Every student, from pre-primary to higher education, will be provided with this card by their respective schools and colleges. It's important to note that the APAAR card is separate from the students' existing Aadhaar ID.

To remind you, that APAAR ID registry is also a centralized authority to store data. Data can be breached at any time.

To address concerns about #centralized authority storing student information But this doesn't mean that there is no solution to #protect our data.

The advent of #blockchain technology has brought forth the notion of #NFTs, also known as Non-Fungible Tokens. As this technology continues to evolve, we have subsequently become acquainted with SBTs. Welcome SBT aka (Soul Bound Tokens). SBTs are Digital Identity Tokens which are attached to your #soul, or we can say that, it's one of a kind of Non-transferable Tokens, which means you cannot transfer or trade your own rights or identity or records or values with someone else. It is connected to your #Soul. This innovative approach ensures enhanced privacy and security.

While the APAAR ID card streamlines academic tracking and transitions between educational institutions, SBTs provide an additional layer of data protection and student ownership. This means that students have more control over their educational records, enhancing data security and privacy. It's important to emphasize that SBTs are a supplementary measure to the existing APAAR ID system.
